Motherhood - it's not what we expected it to be!
Motherhood can be different to what we expected. We have challenges that we did not see coming. These challenges can bring us down, we can become anxious, confused, overwhelmed and we can lose our sense of self.
Often we have so many roles to fulfil. We carry the burdens of our family, our friends, our work colleagues and others. It is easy to feel like no matter what we do, we can't keep up, or we just aren't doing a good enough job. We try to juggle being a great Mum, a loving girlfriend or wife, a caring daughter, a hardworking employee, a volunteer, a loyal friend and more.
Trying to do so much can lead to feelings of isolation, loneliness, fear of failure, overwhelm or we can simply feel lost, confused, undervalued or unseen. We often try to be everything to everyone, and lose ourselves in the process. These feelings can contribute to poor mental health.
However, there are many things we can do to help lighten our load - delegate, prioritise, gain a new perspective of ourselves, reach out to others for help, let go of our high expectations and more.
